Bari mushkil se hota hai chaman main deedawar paida

Beauty, minds, expression and voice all in one. The world has yet to see another example. There are a few people who can put emotions in their songs and there are fewer people who become style icon at the same time. She did it all. She had elegance, charm and beauty. The national songs she sung during wars must have playe a great role to bring up passion and patriotic feelings. And this great transformation of voice that took place from her youth to old age, I've never seen a kind. When she died eight years back on this day, I remember that it was 27th night of Ramazan; the Shab-e-Qadar. I don't know what significance it has got; many people die on that night and many would choose that night to die, if given a choice.

Oh please Abdullah. I didn't expect from you this when you said, "critical and somewhat rebellious of social traditions, dogmas, orthodoxy..." and this should strictly include even by excluding other factors, notions of nationalism and patriotism. These war songs, they're creation of those who don not think beyond addictions. Faiz A. Faiz, denied writing any patriotic songs on the rationale that these songs only give flame to hate. Now that's sounds good!

OK, you are talking about different things here.

Firstly, nationalism-globalism is a separate debate. What 'should be' the ideology is an altogether different topic. Patriotism should not be takes as 'hatred' for others. I just wanted to highlight a legend. :)

Secondly, about Faiz, he also wrote that poem, 'Hum dekhain gay' in which he said 'hum dekhain gay...jab naam rahay ga Allah ka...sab but(idols) uthwaye jain gay...hum ahle safa mardood-e-haram masnad pe bithaye jain gay' etc. Now that is going to spread a lot of hatred too, among the opposition. And such a day which he wished to see is not possible without a gory revolution.

Thirdly, about the role of war songs in a war. Again irrespective of whether nationalism is the correct ideology or not, these songs DO play a role. This has been the practice since ancient times. People used to relate poems and songs to their soldiers. Even in this 'war on terror' by America, they have been holding contests about writing the best war poems. Their artists, on governments order, keep on visiting Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain their troops. Now that could be said as spreading hatred!

Thanks for your criticism :)

And by orthodoxy, I meant a lot of other things for which I get to hear a lot of sarcasm. And honestly, I've been thinking about changing my 'about me' lately. It's quite old; my ideas have changed a lot since then. :)

"among the //opposition\\"

Who are they to Faiz? Oppressors, aren't they?

I was referring to people against his ideas.
